Breast Oncology Rehabilitation

Physical Therapy & Breast Cancer Rehabilitation

Women diagnosed with breast cancer will be treated with a combination of biopsies, lumpectomies, mastectomies, lymph node removal, breast reconstruction, chemotherapy and radiation. These interventions can lead to restricted motion, fatigue, pain and altered balance. Side effects can cause difficulties in completing activities of daily living.

At Advanced Physical Therapy Solutions, our therapists are skilled in the latest evidence-based treatments to help women regain strength and confidence and improve their quality of life after surgery and treatment. Working as a member of your healthcare team, we look at all aspects of movement that may be affected by your treatment to develop a plan to return you back to the activities you enjoy in life.

Research studies have shown that PT can help with:
  • Tolerance to treatment interventions (chemotherapy, radiation, surgery)
  • Pain control
  • Restoration of range of motion
  • Improvements in posture and balance
  • Management of treatment-related fatigue
  • Lymphedema risk reduction, management and compression garments
  • Soft-tissue treatment for radiation fibrosis
  • Preparation for post-mastectomy reconstruction

Getting Started

At APTS, we recommend beginning with physical therapy as soon as possible after diagnosis- ideally prior to surgery- to allow us to address any impairments that may be present and affect your treatment plan. Our therapists will work on an individualized plan of care in conjunction with your physicians and medical team to reduce side effects and facilitate return to life roles, work and all things that make you…you. If you or a loved one is facing breast cancer, contact us today to help start your road to recovery.
