Many women diagnosed with breast cancer may be treated with biopsies, lumpectomies, mastectomies, lymph node removals, and breast reconstructions. These surgeries and other treatments, including radiation and chemotherapy, can lead to undesirable consequences. Side effects such as fatigue, limits to the flexibility of the arm, shoulder and chest, and difficulty with balance can make even simple daily activities difficult.

At APTS, we recommend that women facing breast surgery get started in physical therapy right away – prior to surgery whenever possible. Our therapists will work on an individualized plan of care in conjunction with your physicians. Watch our video to learn more.

At Advanced Physical Therapy Solutions, our therapists are skilled in the latest techniques to help women regain strength and confidence and improve their quality of life after breast cancer surgery and treatment. Working as members of your healthcare team, we look at all the aspects of movement that may be affected by your cancer treatment and develop a plan to help you become a more active participant in your journey to recovery.

Research studies have shown that physical therapy can help with:

  • Pain control
  • Restoration of flexibility and range of motion
  • Improvements in posture and balance
  • Improvements to treatment-related fatigue
  • Lymphedema management and compression garments
  • Soft-tissue treatment for radiation fibrosis
  • Preparation for post-mastectomy reconstruction
