Strength, balance exercises may prevent sports injury

This article references six studies that found a 45% reduction of injury risk among athletes who participated in balancing exercises geared towards joint stability versus simple stretching.  In addition, four studies that looked at strength training exercises to build muscle versus simple stretching found a 68% decrease in the risk of injury.  These types of exercises seemed to reduce both overuse injuries and acute injuries such as tears and sprains.
